Andrea Labinger is Professor Emerita of Spanish, at California's University of La Verne. She translates prose fiction from Latin America and among her numerous published translations are works by Sabina Berman, Edgar Brau, Carlos Cerda, Mempo Giardinelli, Ana María Shua, Alicia Steimberg, and Luisa Valenzuela. The following translations by Labinger were finalists in the PEN USA Literary Competition: Alicia Steimberg's Call Me Magdalena (Cuando digo Magdalena) in 2001; Edgar Brau's Casablanca and Other Stories, co-translated with Donald and Joanne Yates, in 2007; and Alicia Steimberg’s The Rainforest (La selva) in 2007.
