Jo Baker was born and grew up in the village of Arkholme, Lancashire. She was educated at Oxford and The Queen's University of Belfast. The author of three previous novels, Offcomer, The Mermaid's Child and The Telling, she is now at work on her fourth. She lives in Lancaster with her husband, the playwright and screenwriter Daragh Carville.
