Aamer Hussein was born and brought up in Karachi, and studied briefly in India before moving to London shortly after his 15th birthday in 1970. He is a graduate of the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London). He began to publish short stories in journals and anthologies in the late 80s. He has published five volumes of short fiction, including Mirror to the Sun (1993), Insomnia (2007) and the prizewinning 37 Bridges (2015), from which ‘The Man Who stood Still’ is taken. He is also the author of of a novella, Another Gulmohar Tree (2009), and a novel, The Cloud Messenger (2011). He writes fiction in both Urdu and English, travels frequently to Pakistan, and lives in Little Venice, London.
