Jostein Sæbøe is a teacher, journalist, literary reviewer and translator of poetry, who was born in 1942 in Norway. His publications include Litteraturen i Romsdal. Frå andre verdskrig til tusenårsskiftet [The Literature of Romsdal: from the Second World War to the Millennium], 1999, and two books of translations: Balladen om tida [The Ballad of Time], selected poems of Mateja Matevski, from the Republic of Macdeonia, 1994; and Grøne dikt [Green Poems], nine contemporary Irish poets, co-translated with Knut Ødegård, 2005. He has also published translations from other languages, including Dutch and Spanish. He studied languages and literature at the University of Bergen, obtaining his MA in 1971. From then until 2005, he worked as secondary school teacher in Molde. He co-founded the Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson International Literature Festival in Molde, serving as a board member from 1992 to 1999 and as head of administration in 2000. He has also worked as a journalist and reviewer, and for the Norwegian Broadcasting Company (NRK), Oslo. He is a member of the Norwegian branch of International PEN, of Norsk Kritikerlag [the Norwegian Association of Reviewers] and of the Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson Academy for Literature and Freedom of Expression.
