Lydia Rubio, the distinguished Cuban artist, was born in Havana in
1946 and is currently based in Miami, Florida. She holds a Masters
degree from the Graduate School of Design, Harvard University, where
she has also taught. Her works are remarkable for their use of words
and images in painted or sculptural multi-panelled pieces and integrated
installations, these works suggesting discontinuous narratives or
puzzles in spatial sequences. Rubio has won the following awards:
the Cintas Fellowship (1982); the State of Florida Individual Artist
Fellowship in Painting (1994); the Pollock Krasner Fellowship (2006);
and the Creative Capital Professional Development Fellowship (2007).
Rubio, whose works are held in many public and private collections,
is currently giving a one-person show at Kunsthaus, Miami. |
