Naira Bepieva is a Professor at Ilya State university, Tbilisi, Georgia. She graduated from the Philological Faculty of the South Ossetian Pedagogical Institute in 1970. From 1973 to 1978 she was a doctoral student at Tbilisi State University, studying ancient Georgian Literature. Her doctoral dissertation was a study of ancient Georgian lyrics, namely the poetry of Grigol Bagrationi. Since 1980, she has worked as chief editor for the Ossetian language at the Board of Literary Translation and Literary Relations. She is a also member of the Advisory Board at the Ministry of Education, and she teaches Ossetian to BA and MA students at Tbilisi State University. Among her numerous translations are: a two-volume Anthology of Georgian Literature in Ossetian (Tbilisi, 2007); an Anthology of Ossetian Literature in Georgian, compiled and published together with colleagues from Tskhinvali (2007); and Ossetian Folklore (2005) and Ossetian Legends (2009), both in Georgian. Naira Bepieva has worked as consultant and editor to for several films about Ossetia.
