Esma Kokoskeria was born in Sukhumi, the capital of Abkhazia, in 1962. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Musicology at Tbilisi State Conservatoire and a member of the Institute of Georgian-Abkhazian Relations, a non-governmental organisation in Tblisi, Georgia. At present she works as an editor on the daily Abkhazian-language TV programme Moambe [News Release], broadcast by the Georgian Public Broadcasting Corporation. Among her numerous translations into Abhkazian are: Georgian poems and songs; the Constitution of Georgia (2005) the Georgian Governmental release on Russian Aggression (August 2008); and several school textbooks on world geography and history. She was awarded the Shervashidze Prize (2008) for her translation of the book Georgian-Abkhazian Album by P. Kurdovanidze. She has also dubbed more than thirty Georgian films, providing Abkhazian subtitles. She teaches Abkhazian at the Caucasian House in Tblisi and in various governmental institutions.
