Born in Graz, Austria, she studied classical guitar at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, graduating with a concert diploma and MA. She later pursued repertoire studies with Ruggero Chiesa in Milan and master classes and workshops with Sergio and Odair Assad, John Duarte, Roland Dyens, Jürgen Hübscher, Wolfgang Lendle, Isabel Siewers and Hopkinson Smith. She has given concerts and radio recordings in Austria, Italy, Germany and England (solo and chamber music).
She also studied Cultural Management at the Institute for Cultural Concepts in Vienna and taught at the Conservatory in Graz; and from 1986 at the Vienna Music Schools.
Since 2007, Persterer-Ornig has been Managing Director of the state competition prima la musica Vienna. The success of this competition has led to growing numbers of participants and increasing musical achievements. Persterer-Ornig's responsibilities include: the introduction of an extensive talent promotion program for prize winners of the Vienna State Competition, which has become a flagship model for all of Austria; the organization of numerous concert appearances in Germany and abroad, as well as the founding of several prima la musica concert series, CD productions, master classes and workshops with renowned artists such as Lang Lang, Julian Rachlin, Angelika Kirchschlager, Lidia Baich, Eva Lind, Paul Gulda, and members of the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic; and partnership with important cultural institutions (including the Vienna Philharmonic, Vienna State Opera and Mozarthaus Vienna).
Currently, Persterer-Ornig is preparing for a concert tour to China, in cooperation with the Vienna Philharmonic.
Since 2011, Persterer Ornig has been a member of the board of the International Chopin Society in Vienna.
In 2012, she was awarded the “honorary sign of the city of Vienna” for services to the International Chopin Society in Vienna; and in 2014, she was awarded the Polish Order "Zasłużony dla Kultury Polskiej" for services to culture.
