Malaysia women caned for attempting to have lesbian sex

Two Malaysian women convicted of attempting to have lesbian sex in a car have been caned in a religious court.

The Muslim women, aged 22 and 32, were each caned six times in the Sharia High Court in the state of Terengganu.

According to an official, this is the state’s first conviction for same-sex relations and its first public caning.

Human rights activists reacted with outrage. Homosexual activity is illegal under both secular and religious laws.

The caning was witnessed by more than 100 people, according to local news outlet

Malaysia drops gay 'prevention' category from video competition

Homosexual activity is illegal in Malaysia under both secular and religious laws

The Malaysian government has removed a category on “preventing” homosexuality from a sex education video competition for young people, following an outcry among activists.

They had said it could increase hatred and violence against LGBT people.
The health ministry has replaced the “gender identity disorder” category with one on gender and sexuality.
The contest for 13- to 24-year-olds is offering prizes of up to $1,000 (£780) for the best videos.
The other categories are sexual health and sex and the internet.
Homosexual activity is illegal in Malaysia under both secular and religious laws and is punishable by a prison sentence or corporal punishment.

Kim Jong-nam killing: Malaysia expels North Korean ambassador

Malaysia has expelled North Korea’s ambassador after he criticised its investigation into the killing of the North Korean leader’s half-brother.

Kang Chol must leave within 48 hours, Malaysia’s foreign ministry says.
It demanded an apology after the envoy said North Korea could not trust Malaysia’s handling of the inquiry, but says it did not receive one.
Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of Kim Jong-un, died three weeks ago at a Kuala Lumpur airport.
Malaysia has not directly blamed North Korea for the attack, in which two women smeared the nerve agent VX on Mr Kim’s face. But there is widespread suspicion Pyongyang was responsible.
